As a USC computer science student pursuing a bachelor’s degree, I have focused my project work on computer vision for architectural drawings and a Structural AI Agent concept for structural engineers. That direct connection makes this opportunity especially compelling: I want to contribute to practical product development where drawing analysis and model integration serve an engineering workflow. In my current architectural drawing segmentation capstone, I built a prototype to detect and segment walls, openings, and structural symbols. I prepared rasterized DWG samples and annotated datasets, then trained and evaluated U-Net, YOLO, Mask R-CNN , and ViT approaches against a held-out set of drawings. Comparing segmentation quality and detection results gave me hands-on experience assessing model performance on the material the system is meant to interpret. My earlier architectural plan research project strengthened the data and computer vision work behind that effort. I rasterized DWG files, standardized image dimensions, and applied augmentation for a supervised study; I also developed Python and OpenCV baselines using edge detection , contour detection , shape analysis, and geometric transformations . I used Shapely to check geometry, kept reproducible notebooks and Git history, and presented experiment methods and results at a lab review. I would be glad to contribute these skills in the part-time internship and learn from Asterline’s senior engineers and research team. My capstone also included a prototype model handoff to a Structural AI Agent workflow, with integration considerations and test findings presented to a student project review group. I am ready to bring that practical, experimental approach to the team’s work. Thank you for considering my application.
